by admin477351

Vietnamese President To Lam has embarked on official visits to the European Union and Belgium, marking a significant step in strengthening Vietnam’s international relations. Arriving in Brussels on Wednesday, President To Lam is accompanied by his spouse, Ngo Phuong Ly, and a senior delegation. These visits come at the invitation of European Council President António Costa and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever.

The primary focus of President To Lam’s trip is to bolster diplomatic ties, expand economic cooperation, and advance existing commitments between Vietnam and its European partners. The relationship between Vietnam and the EU has been evolving since 1990, covering diverse areas such as trade, economic development, security, and sustainable growth. In January 2026, both parties elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, paving the way for further collaboration in sectors like energy, green transition, innovation, and regional security.

Vietnam’s connection with Belgium dates back to 1973, with cooperation spanning trade, agriculture, education, science and technology, and development programs. Both nations actively engage in international issues through multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and ASEAN-EU frameworks.

During these visits, President To Lam aims to reinforce political alliances, deepen economic partnerships, and convert existing agreements into actionable initiatives. This strategic engagement reflects Vietnam’s broader aim to enhance its international presence and interactions with European countries.
