Israel is setting the rules for the post-conflict era in Gaza, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding a full veto over the international peace force, a condition the US Secretary of State agrees with.
“Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu said. Marco Rubio, visiting Israel, echoed this, stating the force must be “countries that Israel’s comfortable with.”
Rubio also confirmed that Gaza’s future governance must exclude Hamas, which remains armed. Netanyahu has already signaled this veto will be used to block Turkey.
The Trump-brokered truce is unstable. An Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp, which Israel claimed targeted militants, was called a “clear violation” by Hamas.
The exchange of remains is another source of friction. Trump warned Hamas on Truth Social to expedite the return of Israeli bodies, as Hamas has only returned 18 remains.
