Christopher Nolan’s latest cinematic endeavor, The Odyssey, has achieved a remarkable milestone by setting the highest per capita opening weekend box-office record in Ireland. Released last Friday, the film garnered an impressive €954,000 in the Republic of Ireland and an additional €69,000 in Northern Ireland. On a global scale, The Odyssey amassed $264 million in its debut weekend, marking the most successful opening of Nolan’s illustrious career.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya, The Odyssey is a cinematic adaptation of the classic Greek epic poem by Homer. The story chronicles the arduous ten-year journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he struggles to return home following the Trojan War. The film has not only outperformed Nolan’s 2023 release, Oppenheimer, but also secured his strongest debut since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

Released across 73 international markets, The Odyssey premiered in over 12,800 locations and was shown on 26,000 screens globally, including 440 IMAX screens. Notably, it is the first feature film to be entirely shot with IMAX cameras, showcasing Nolan’s continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of cinematic technology.

The film has been met with widespread acclaim from critics and features a diverse ensemble cast, with notable performances by Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, and Charlize Theron. This critical success further cements Nolan’s reputation as one of the leading filmmakers of his generation.

With a portfolio that includes acclaimed films such as The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Inception, and Memento, Christopher Nolan continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The success of The Odyssey adds yet another laurel to his distinguished career, underscoring his ability to deliver compelling narratives and groundbreaking cinematic experiences.
