US Official Denies “Immediate” Putin Meeting After Trump’s Post

by admin477351

A US official has denied any “immediate” meeting between Trump and Putin is planned, following the president’s social media post announcing one.
The official, speaking anonymously on Tuesday, said “no plans” exist for a summit in the “immediate future.” This comes after Trump claimed a Budapest meeting would happen “within two weeks.”
The Kremlin also tempered expectations, with a spokesperson stating there is “no precise timeframe” for a meeting.
Trump’s announcement did lead to a “productive” call on Monday between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
However, the US official said a follow-up meeting between the diplomats was “not necessary.” This is the “latest abrupt shift” by Trump, who has acknowledged “frustrations” with Putin.
