The gathering, themed “Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all,” will address pressing international concerns, including ongoing conflicts and the evolving landscape of technology.
Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin will take the stage to emphasize the critical role of multilateralism and global cooperation. His agenda includes a strong focus on the Middle East, particularly the situation in Gaza and the West Bank. Martin plans to meet with United Nations agencies to assess the humanitarian conditions in these regions, where the aftermath of ongoing destruction poses severe challenges, especially with winter approaching.
In addition to the Middle East, Martin is expected to address other significant global issues during the UN’s High-Level Week. The war in Ukraine and the challenges posed by the rapid development of artificial intelligence are also on his agenda. Accompanying the Taoiseach are Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee and other Irish government officials.
